As educators, we have learned that appreciation for our efforts is not always instant, and it’s not always visible.  Our students, our parents, even our leaders may never know the hard work we put in, the sacrifices we make, and the love we pour into our profession and our people.  But we know, and we know that our sacrifice is our own reward.

As long as God gives me strength to work

and try to make things real for my children,

I'm going to work for it—even if it means

making the ultimate sacrifice.

— Medgar Evers

It's a hard reality to accept that many of the sacrifices that we regularly make will remain under appreciated by those who benefit from the results of our devotion.
They may never know the many hours of preparation that were invested in creating the plans, posters, and placards that helped them feel more welcomed and inspired.

They may never know what it took for us to show up every day in the midst of our own personal struggles and setbacks, and yet bring our best to shine in the moment.

They may never know what it costs you, but do it with love anyway”

— Mother Teresa

They may never know the kindness intended.
They may never know the grace extended.
They may never know the energy expended.

They may never know the character defended.
They may never know the words amended.
They may never know the events attended.

We love life not because we are used to living,

but because we are used to loving

Friedrich Nietzsche

They may never know that we stayed late, cried quietly, and gave more than we had. They may never know the battles we fought for their good as models of leadership. They may never know our contribution to their success, but the rewards are enough. They may never know what it cost, but we still do it because we get the assignment.

In the end, it doesn't matter whether they know or not—You know and God knows.

There is no limit to the amount of love that you have to give.  So, love more than anyone will ever know.  Because you know and we know what matters.
