Better Educators Ask Better Questions

The greatest educators know that learning isn’t about delivering information; it’s about sparking discovery. When we ask the right questions, we don’t just fill minds. We awaken them.
The most serious mistakes are not being
made as a result of wrong answers.
The truly dangerous thing is
asking the wrong questions.
— Peter Drucker
Contrary to the cliché, we've all heard questions that are foolish or at least misled.
Like:
Why did you give my child that grade? Are you calling her a liar?
What do you mean I need to be more prepared and punctual? I'm here, right?
Why doesn't my kid get more playing time? What do you have against him?
Do we really have to attend more PD? Don't my results speak for themselves?
Questions often speak louder than answers to gauge one's priorities and perspective.
If you do not know how to ask the
right question, you discover nothing.
— Edwards Deming
Thoughtful inquiry is the engine of a learning organization, enabling innovation, driving collaboration, and ensuring relevance in a world where change is relentless.
Great questions stem from thoughtful curiosity motivated by a pursuit of wisdom. Great questions transform our minds to discover what was previously undisclosed.
Great questions are an art form that unlocks potential and powers authentic growth.
Great questions give focus to the plans, energy to the spirit, and soundness of mind.r.
The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge,
for the ears of the wise seek it out.
— Proverbs 18:5
Courageous leaders ask better questions than fearful managers protecting safety.
Highly effective educators ask better questions than school employees doing a job.
We don't know what we don't know about the world that's just ahead on the horizon. This blunt reality is both exciting and terrifying because it requires constantly being aware of our biases and blind spots to see opportunities that others may be missing.
So, with discerning hearts, we continue asking, listening, adjusting, and learning. We champion curiosity! And we ask better questions, courageously, even (and especially) when it gets uncomfortable.
